Not only is this a great incentive for students to get a head start on buying school supplies, but I think that these holidays provide a little spike in sales that would otherwise be slumping due to the summer period. During the summer, gas is going up and people are always trying to find a way to save an extra dollar. Also during this season, it is typical for retail sales to go down since there is such a long stretch between Holiday seasons. Thus, tax free holidays are an important part of the economy.

I think this is a great idea. This will allow those students who are on a budget and low on cash go get all of the school supplies they need for the semester.

This would be an excellent time to stock up on items you will need more of throughout the school year. Take this opportunity to buy paper, pencils, pens, printer ink, or any other items you think you will need a lot of.
